Reason #1 – Costa Rica is home to 5% of the world’s biodiversity.
Costa Rica strives to preserve and protect their biodiversity and Costa Rica is the only country in the world to actually reverse deforestation meaning that there is plenty of flora and fauna to see and explore.
Reason #2 – Nicoya, Costa Rica is one of five blue zones in the world.
Blue zones are areas of the earth where people noticeably live longer than the rest of the world. People that are 100 years old are not a rare thing in these zones.
What´s the trick? The water is rich in calcium and magnesium, they get 8 hours of sleep, and their healthy diet contains fruits, veggies and animal proteins. What makes this really interesting is that there are only 5 blue zones in the whole world!
Reason #3 – The sun rises and sets at the same time 365 days a year.
Due to its close proximity to the equator, the sun is expected to rise and set at the same time every day.
Reason #4 – Costa Ricans refer to themselves as ¨ticos¨ or ¨ticas¨.
While most foreigners will call someone from Costa Rica a Costa Rican, this is not how the locals call themselves they refer to themselves as ¨ticos¨fo rmales and ¨ticas¨for females.
Reason #5 – Earthquakes are quite common in Costa Rica.
But don´t be startled if you feel one while you’re visiting! Mostly the earthquakes are small with no casualties, and due to the active volcanos all around, it is a common thing to feel a small earthquake.
Reason #6 – ‘Pura Vida’ is the national slogan of Costa Rica.
‘Pura vida’ when translated literally means ¨pure life¨ – but it is more than that. It is also used for hello, goodbye, thank you, that’s great, or just anything optimistic. It’s not just the slogan of Costa Rica, it’s the way of life, and as soon as you step foot in Costa Rica you will feel the Pura Vida vibes all around you.
This could also be one of the reasons why Costa Rica is one of the happiest countries on earth.
Reason #7 – Wild sloths are all around Costa Rica.
Sloths can be found all around Costa Rica due to the lush rainforest within the region. Perezosos (Sloth in Spanish), also fully represent the ‘pura vida’ lifestyle.
Make sure to look up and keep your eyes open to spot one in a tree. With their camouflage you can often walk right past one and never know it was there.
So, if you really needed more convincing, which I doubt, there you have it. Now go see for yourself why Costa Rica is one of the best countries in the world, in our opinion.
